Message from the President of Berkshire Carousel

(Berkshire Carousel Co-founders Jim and Jackie Shulman riding the Silver Beach Carousel
in St. Joseph, MI during the 2012 National Carousel Assn. Convention)
Dear Friends of the Berkshire Carousel,
Autumn greetings,
My last trip to the Berkshires in early September was a very busy and productive one. I did get to see the great progress in the workshop, met with a lot of friends, held a Board Meeting, had my 50th reunion (Pittsfield High School 1962) with a brunch for 120 at our workshop and attended the Boy’s Club Lighthouse Reunion of bands from the 60s through 80s. Upon return from the Berkshires I headed to the National Carousel Association Convention in Michigan and came back with a lot of good ideas for our carousel. It was a very busy month.
I am pleased to announce that the Berkshire Carousel will be located in Lanesborough and we are currently working with the Selectmen and the Berkshire Mall to identify a workable location. Page 2. of the newsletter will give a more complete story.
We are rounding the corner on completing the carousel with the full contingency of 33 horses, all the art work and the frame to be completed by the end of March 2013.
I also want to thank the readers and Berkshire fans for the purchase of the book: Berkshire Memories: A Baby Boomer Looks Back at Growing Up in Pittsfield.
All proceeds from the sale of 1,000 copies (two printings) went to the carousel project, raising approximately $25,000. A third printing and a second volume are expected in mid 2013.
This will be our final newsletter as we will be directing people to the Facebook Page set up by volunteer and professional graphic designer and photographer, Katy Levesque. Katy has been doing an excellent job of posting photos and events as they happen which is more timely than in quarterly newsletters. Some of the feature articles like Meet Our Volunteers will be continued along with other pieces on the website. During 2013 we hope to be assembling a book on the five years of the project to be available when the carousel is operating. Articles and photos from past newsletter and the facebook site should be included.
Be sure to check the facebook site and visit the carousel workshop during the Holiday Season. Thanks for your continued support of this wonderful project.
Peace and Health,
Jim Shulman
