A Message from Maria Caccaviello, Berkshire Carousel Director
“BCFF”

At a recent event two of our volunteers Kathleen Nolan and Sandi Stanley were sitting in the courtyard at Jae’s Asian Bistro on a beautiful summer evening. Both had come to volunteer. I went over to speak to them and they said they had been thinking about their experiences at the carousel and about their future with the project. Both had come up with a saying that best described how they felt. We are so proud to be BCFFs; I said what is a BCFF they said it is “Berkshire Carousel Friends Forever”.
Berkshire Carousel Friends Forever ... that sums up the last five years very nicely! BCFF: I love it. What a legacy we have created together.
Friends are special people and you are true friends. You have chosen us, saying you are BCFFs. It makes sense because everyone at Berkshire Carousel chose to be here, chose to dedicate hours of time to carving, sanding and painting, chose to come to the potlucks and chose to do all those other things like stuff envelopes, bake cookies, clean, take the garbage, etc. Friends indeed, each of you are a special gift to the Berkshire Carousel.
Well, BCFFs, in a few months we will be coming to the completion of the first phase of our project and Berkshire Carousel Friends Forever will continue to bring the mission of community into the next hundred years. So BCFF shout it out loud and be proud you have made it happen. Thank you all so much for being the best BCFFs.
Maria

Esther Visits the Workshop

Esther Cutler and daughter Anita Bakst beside Berkshire Belle
Ninety-year old Esther Cutler from Pittsfield is no stranger to the Berkshire Carousel project, but in four years has never been able to get out to see the beautiful carousel horses that she and her family sponsored. In June, she and daughter Anita Bakst made a special visit to the workshop to see the carved figures: Charlie (Esther sponsored in memory of her daughter Lynn) and Sam (she sponsored in memory of her husband, Sam Cutler, founder of BLAND Electric Co.). In addition she got to see the beautiful Berkshire Belle (sponsored by Esther’s granddaughter Simone Hamrick, husband Wes and five great grandchildren) and Glory (sponsored by her daughter, Anita). Esther had a great visit meeting volunteers and joking with long time friend, Jim Shulman. Esther, thank you for the visit and our special treat in having you come.
A Special Thank You to Our Volunteers
Wednesday May 30th, Berkshire Carousel held a potluck thank you for the many volunteers of the project. Periodically we like to get together to give all of us an opportunity to get to know each other and socialize “without carving and sanding.”
These photos are from the evening that included volunteers, staff, Board Members, and guests.

Iggy the Carousel Riding Dog
These postcards show an interesting pooch at the Watch Hill Rhode Island Carousel. Iggy was quite the carousel rider. We wondered what the ticket price is for a dog to ride and if Iggy is a skilled equestrian too.
