Message from the President of Berkshire Carousel

(Berkshire Carousel Co-founders Jim and Jackie Shulman)

Dear Friends of the Berkshire Carousel,

Summer greetings,

I have had two great trips to the Berkshires this summer from my Ohio home and was able to attend several exciting events. It is incredible how much progress has been made on the carousel in the four years since we opened our first workshop and recruited a handful of volunteers. To date over two hundred volunteers have participated in creating the figures, painting and other parts of the carousel.  People who are not familiar with the project or have not visited the workshop think that Berkshire Carousel is only about an amusement ride and simply a commodity to attract people to a shopping area.

It is much more and our volunteers have become the strongest advocates and voices about the project. The Berkshire Carousel is an art masterpiece and will prove to be one of the most visited artworks in the Berkshires when completed. It is also about community; a community of people from all walks of life who have worked to give something back to their larger community and have a true sense of legacy.  The carousel has also provided an important educational and skills building opportunity for people of all ages. The same excitement about learning is shared by our junior artists as is by our seniors, and we have had volunteers from 9 to 90 participate. This project could not have succeeded better in meeting Jackie and my expectations of involving the community in creating the carousel. Again we thank you volunteers, supporters, sponsors and friends for helping make the project so successful.

Peace and Health,

Jim Shulman
